If the most precious things are tested in the fire, why would we expect to avoid the furnace? If diamonds are refined on the wheel, can we expect to reach perfection without suffering? Who has commanded the wind to stop blowing just because our ship is at sea? Why should we be treated better than our

 

Lord? Jesus, the Firstborn, felt the rod of discipline, so why wouldn’t we, his younger siblings? It’s pride that wants a soft pillow and an easy life for a soldier of the cross. It’s wiser to surrender to God’s will and learn to be pleased with it. Then we can find beauty in hardship, just like Samson found honey in the lion’s carcass.
