Spurgeon's Prayer: Drawing Near to the Throne of Grace
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
— Hebrews 4:16 (BSB)
We are never so high as when we are on our knees.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we come before You today, grateful that through Christ, the veil has been torn, and we are invited to draw near to Your throne of grace. We ask that You would draw us closer to You, into the inner sanctuary, where we may behold Your glory and commune with You in spirit and truth. Lord, help us to approach Your throne with confidence, knowing that we will receive mercy and grace in our time of need.
We thank You, Lord, that because of Christ’s sacrifice, we can now enter into the place that was once hidden. May we stand before You, beholding Your glory above the Mercy Seat, and experience the fullness of Your love and forgiveness. Heal us of all our diseases, both physical and spiritual, and forgive us for the ways we have fallen short.
Even though You have already healed us and brought us near, we confess that we still need Your renewing touch. We are prone to grow sluggish in our faith, and we ask that You would quicken our spirits once again. May a vision of Your face brighten our day, and may the touch of Your Spirit give us new vigor. Let us walk with holy joy and confidence, knowing that we have been forgiven and brought into Your presence.
As we begin this day, Lord, help us to walk humbly before You, rejoicing in the access we have to Your throne of grace. Let us live in the light of Your love and grace, praising You for the mercy You have shown us. Amen.
