Spurgeon's Prayer: Cleansed Daily

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
— 1 John 1:9 (BSB)

To wash and cleanse us from daily defilement, we come to the fountain every day.
— Charles Spurgeon

Father, we come before You today, recognizing our need for daily cleansing. Though You have already washed us in the fountain of Christ’s blood, we still come before You, seeking Your purifying touch. Cleanse us, O Lord, from any fault, any sin that clings to us, and make us clean. We trust in Your faithfulness to forgive and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Lord, we desire to grow in godly virtues. If there is any lack in us, supply it. If there is any area in our character that needs balance, moderate it by Your Spirit. Let us reflect the full image of Christ in all we do. We know that this is Your work in us, and we ask that You continue it until it is complete.

Gracious Master, we long to be made more like You. Just as You washed Your disciples’ feet, we ask You to condescend to our faults and be patient with us. Continue to cleanse us and mold us into Your likeness, so that we may live for the glory of God and the good of others.

We want to conquer self in every area, to live as those who are completely surrendered to Your will. Strengthen us to overcome the desires of the flesh, and help us to walk in the Spirit. We trust that You will complete the good work You have begun in us, and we rest in the assurance of Your ongoing grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
