Then Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. — Luke 19:1 BSB
Jesus had never been to Jericho before—and He never returned there again. This was His last journey, and within days He would be crucified. It was the only chance the people in Jericho had to receive blessings from Him. If anyone neglected to seek help that day, they missed their one and only opportunity.
Imagine what that brief moment meant in the history of the old city. Some people received blessings from Jesus as He passed by, and they would forever remember His kind face and the compassionate eyes that looked into theirs. But many others likely missed their chance, walking away unblessed.
Christ is always passing by in our lives. He may come again, but He is always moving, and the blessing we seek from Him at any moment must be received as He passes.
Every day brings its own opportunities, duties, and privileges—each one offering its own radiant gifts. But once the day passes, it never comes again. We may have other bright days, but that specific day and its blessings won’t return. If we don’t seize the gifts it offers in that moment, we lose them forever. We need to be alert to recognize and take hold of each day’s blessings as they come.
