But as for you, do you seek great things for yourself? Stop seeking! For I will bring disaster on every living creature, declares the LORD, but wherever you go, I will grant your life as a spoil of war. — Jer 45:5 BSB
A promise for hard times and a guarantee of safety and life under extreme pressure—a life taken as spoil.
This promise is especially fitting for our times, which are becoming more difficult as we approach the end of the age and the times of tribulation.
What does "a life for a prey" mean? It speaks of a life rescued from the clutches of destruction, like David rescuing the lamb from the lion’s jaws. It doesn’t imply a place of peace and calm, away from the battles and enemies around us. Instead, it means a table spread in the presence of our enemies, a shelter in the storm, a stronghold in the midst of conflict—a life protected despite ongoing pressure. Just like Paul, who, when pressed beyond measure, despaired of life itself, yet received Divine help as the thorn remained but Christ's power rested upon him, and His grace was more than enough.
Lord, give me my life as a prey, and in the hardest places, help me to be victorious today.
