Spurgeon's Prayer: The Grace to Forgive
Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
— Ephesians 4:32 (BSB)
To be forgiven is such sweetness that honey is tasteless in comparison with it. But yet there is one thing sweeter still, and that is to forgive.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we come before You this evening with hearts seeking Your grace and mercy. We acknowledge that we have been forgiven much through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. As we rest in the forgiveness we have received, we ask that You give us hearts that are quick to forgive others. Teach us to forgive as we have been forgiven, not holding grudges or allowing bitterness to take root in our lives.
Lord, we desire to be tenderhearted and kind, just as Christ has shown us. Let our relationships reflect the grace and mercy that You have extended to us. Help us to let go of any anger, bitterness, or resentment that may hinder our love for others. We recognize that holding on to unforgiveness only harms us and those around us, and so we ask for the strength to release it fully into Your hands.
Father, You are the God of reconciliation, and we ask that You help us to be agents of peace in our homes, workplaces, and communities. If there are any broken relationships in our lives, we ask for Your healing touch. Bring restoration where there has been division, and let Your love flow freely through us.
As we close this day, we rest in the knowledge that we are forgiven by You, and we trust that You will continue to shape us into people who forgive easily and love deeply. Let our lives be marked by the same grace that You have shown us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
