Spurgeon's Prayer: Overcoming the Enemy

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
— James 4:7 (BSB)

The devil is never a fair fighter; he often takes advantage of our weakness.
— Charles Spurgeon

Father, as we end this day, we are reminded of the spiritual battles we face. We know that the enemy is always seeking to tempt and lead us astray. But we thank You for the promise that if we resist the devil, he will flee from us. Tonight, we ask for Your strength to stand firm in the face of the enemy’s attacks.

Lord, give us discernment to recognize the schemes of the evil one. Help us to be vigilant and aware of the subtle ways the enemy tries to deceive and distract us. Protect us from his lies and temptations, and give us the wisdom to stand on Your truth.

We confess that we are often weak, but we know that in You, we are strong. Equip us with Your armor, O God, and help us to resist every temptation that comes our way. We declare tonight that we belong to You, and the enemy has no claim on us. We trust in Your protection and deliverance, knowing that You are our refuge.

As we prepare for sleep, we ask that You guard us from any attacks of the enemy. Cover us with Your grace and keep us safe through the night. Let us rest in the confidence that You are watching over us, and in the morning, may we rise with renewed strength to continue the fight. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
