Spurgeon's Prayer: Equipped for Spiritual Battle
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes.
— Ephesians 6:11 (BSB)
The Christian must trust in Christ for his armor as well as for his righteousness.
— Charles Spurgeon
Gracious Lord, as we begin this day, we acknowledge our need for Your strength to stand firm against the evil within and the temptations of the world. We face spiritual battles daily, and we know that without Your help, we are weak and vulnerable. Equip us with Your armor, O God, that we may resist the enemy and remain steadfast in our faith.
We ask for the shield of faith to protect us from the fiery darts of doubt and fear. Guard our hearts and minds, and help us to hold fast to the promises of Your Word. Let us stand strong in the face of adversity, knowing that You are our defender and deliverer.
Lord, we desire purity within. Cleanse our hearts of every evil tendency and make us strong against temptation. May we walk today with holy jealousy and watchfulness, ensuring that nothing in us brings dishonor to Your name. Let those who observe our lives see only what reflects Your goodness and grace.
Keep us from the attacks of the enemy, whether they come from within or from without. Protect us from the world’s allure, and give us discernment to recognize and resist anything that would lead us astray. We know that in Christ, we have the victory, and we rest in that assurance.
Thank You, Lord, for being our refuge and our strength. As we walk through this day, may we be aware of Your presence, guiding us and protecting us from all harm. We trust in You, and we go forward in the confidence that You have equipped us for every challenge we will face. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
