Spurgeon's Prayer: Cleansed and Restored
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
— 1 John 1:9 (BSB)
He that has washed us in His precious blood will not allow the smallest speck to remain upon us, but He will perfect His work and make us fit for heaven.
— Charles Spurgeon
Heavenly Father, as we come before You this morning, we do so acknowledging our need for mercy. We have sinned against You in word, thought, and deed. Your law is just and holy, yet we confess with shame that we have knowingly violated it. Even as Your children, saved by grace, we still fall short. We acknowledge our guilt and ask for Your cleansing touch once again.
Lord Jesus, You have already washed us in Your precious blood, but we ask for the daily cleansing that we need, just as You washed the feet of Your disciples. Purify us today so that we may be bold to enter Your presence. Let us come before You, knowing we are clean through Your atoning sacrifice.
Give us the confidence to stand before You, where Your glory shines forth. May we approach the mercy seat with hearts filled with gratitude and assurance. This morning, we desire to walk in the light of Your forgiveness, with nothing hindering our fellowship with You.
Lord, for those who have never known the joy of being cleansed by Your blood, we pray that You would open their eyes to their need for salvation. May they come to know the peace that only You can give. Let today be the day they are washed clean, consecrated by Your atoning sacrifice.
As we go through this day, help us to walk in purity, knowing that You are with us. May our lives reflect the cleansing You have done within us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
