Spurgeon's Prayer: Deliver Us from Evil

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
— Matthew 6:13 (BSB)

He who has stood out against temptation has been mighty, not in his own strength, but in the power of the Spirit of God.
— Charles Spurgeon

Father, as the day draws to a close, we turn to You for protection. We acknowledge that we are surrounded by temptations and evil influences that seek to draw us away from You. But we know that You are our refuge, and so we ask that You deliver us from all forms of evil, both within and without. Guard our hearts and minds, and keep us close to You.

Lord, we confess that we are weak and prone to sin. Even though we desire to walk in holiness, we often fall short. We ask for Your strength to resist the temptations that come our way. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on You, knowing that in Your strength, we can overcome.

Cleanse our hearts of any lingering sin, Lord, and make us pure before You. As we rest tonight, we ask that You protect us from the enemy’s attacks. Shield us with Your grace, and let no temptation take hold of us that we cannot bear. May we awaken tomorrow with renewed strength to live for You.

We thank You for the promise that You are faithful to deliver us from evil. As we prepare for sleep, we rest in the assurance that You are watching over us. Let Your peace guard our hearts, and may we wake refreshed, ready to serve You in holiness. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
