Spurgeon's Prayer: Looking to Christ Alone
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
— Hebrews 12:2 (BSB)
I have a great need for Christ; I have a great Christ for my need.
— Charles Spurgeon
Heavenly Father, we come before You today with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. We confess that we are often tempted to trust in our own efforts, in rituals, or in good deeds, but we know that our only hope is in Christ alone. We look to Him, not to our prayers or works, but to His perfect sacrifice on the cross.
Jesus, You are our everything—our sin-bearer, our Savior, and our Redeemer. We have no hope apart from You. Your wounds bleed the balm that heals our souls. Your death, resurrection, and reign are the foundation of our salvation, and we rest in the sufficiency of Your finished work.
As we go through this day, help us to resist the temptation to trust in anything other than You. Keep us from looking to our own righteousness or good works. Let our eyes remain fixed on You, knowing that You are the source of all our hope and strength.
Lord, we thank You that because of Your sacrifice, we are forgiven and free. We know that You are glorified in our salvation, and we trust in the promise that those who look to You will never be put to shame. Today, we rest in Your grace, confident that You are enough. Amen.
