Spurgeon's Prayer: Grateful for the Word

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
— Psalm 119:105 (BSB)

A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.
— Charles Spurgeon

Heavenly Father, we come before You this morning filled with gratitude for the gift of Your Word. It is a light to our path and a guide to our feet. Thank You for placing it in our hands, for giving us the ability to understand it, and for allowing it to transform our hearts. Through Your Word, we find joy, comfort, and strength, and we praise You for revealing Your truth to us.

Lord, we thank You for every part of the Bible, not only for the promises that uplift us but also for the commands that challenge and guide us. Your Word keeps us from sin, gives us wisdom, and leads us in the path of righteousness. Above all, we are grateful for how the Scriptures reveal Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We see Him in the types and shadows of the Old Testament, and we rejoice in the clear light of the New Testament where He is fully revealed.

We also give thanks for the Holy Spirit, who opens our minds and hearts to understand the Scriptures. Without His light, we would remain blind, but with His guidance, the Word becomes alive to us. Blessed are our eyes that have been opened, and blessed is our understanding that has been enlightened by Your grace.

Help us, Lord, to love Your Word even more. May it be like manna to our souls, nourishing us and shaping us into the likeness of Christ. As we go through this day, may Your Word guide our thoughts, words, and actions. Amen.
