Spurgeon's Prayer: The Presence of God
“If Your Presence does not go with us,” Moses replied, “do not lead us up from here.
— Exodus 33:15 (BSB)
I have a great need for Christ; I have a great Christ for my need.
— Charles Spurgeon
Heavenly Father, as we settle into the quiet of this evening, we turn our hearts toward You and ask for Your presence to abide with us. We are like Israel in the wilderness, longing for Your guidance and protection. Just as Moses prayed, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here,” so we echo that prayer tonight. Lord, we cannot live without You. If You do not go before us, we have no strength or direction.
Help us to be more aware of Your presence in our lives. Let us live and move with the consciousness that You are near. May Your presence be more real to us than the world around us. We want to dwell in You, to find our peace and strength in Your nearness. Lord, make us more dependent on You in every aspect of our lives.
As we reflect on this day, we ask that You fill our hearts with the peace that comes from knowing You are with us. Let us not be anxious about tomorrow, for You hold all things in Your hands. We trust in Your goodness, Your faithfulness, and Your love. Teach us to rest in You, knowing that we are safe under the shadow of Your wings.
Father, as we rest tonight, let Your presence surround us like a comforting shield. May we wake tomorrow with renewed strength, ready to walk in the light of Your guidance. Thank You for being our constant companion, for never leaving or forsaking us. Amen.
