Spurgeon's Prayer: Laborers for the Harvest

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.”
— Matthew 9:37-38 (BSB)

God save us from living in comfort while sinners are sinking into hell!
— Charles Spurgeon

Heavenly Father, as we start this day, we come before You with a deep burden for the lost. Your Word tells us that the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. We ask You, Lord of the harvest, to send out workers into Your harvest field. In the great cities where millions live, many do not know Christ, and they have no one to tell them of the saving grace of the Gospel. We pray that You would raise up more laborers, especially in these urban areas, to reach the masses with the message of hope.

Lord, give us a burden for the lost, particularly for those who never enter places of worship and who even despise the Gospel. Stir our hearts to see the spiritual need around us, and give us compassion for those who are perishing without Christ. We pray for the rich and the poor alike, for those who feel no need for religion and for those who are struggling under the weight of their burdens. Lord, make us bold in proclaiming Your truth to all people.

We ask for urgency in spreading the Gospel, knowing that time is short and souls are precious. Let us not be content with living in comfort while others are sinking into spiritual death. Help us to reach out to those around us, sharing the good news of salvation with urgency and compassion. May we be faithful laborers in Your harvest field, doing all we can to bring others to Christ.

As we go through this day, remind us of the mission You have given us. Help us to be diligent and faithful in sharing the Gospel, trusting in Your power to save. Amen.
