Spurgeon's Prayer: The Call of Grace
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.
— 2 Peter 3:9 (BSB)
Grace puts its hand on the boasting mouth, and shuts it once for all.
— Charles Spurgeon
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the patience and mercy You showed when You called us to Yourself. We remember the sweet and inviting voices urging us to return to You, lighting our path with mercy. But we confess that we wandered, even extinguishing the light within at times. How foolish we were to resist Your love, yet You never gave up on us.
Lord, we recall how You brought us low, striking us with the blow of grace. We remember how You withered our pride and made us see ourselves as we truly were—lost, ruined, and condemned by the law. In our brokenness, we cried out to You, and in Your mercy, You delivered us. O, happy day when You sealed our pardon with the precious blood of Jesus!
Father, we come again to the cross where the Savior bled, looking afresh upon the One who died for us. May we never forget that it was by His sacrifice that we were redeemed. Help us to live each day in humility, never boasting in ourselves but only in Christ, who saved us.
As we begin this day, let our hearts be filled with gratitude for the grace You have shown us. May we walk in continual repentance, always turning to You for forgiveness and strength. Thank You for calling us out of darkness into Your marvelous light. Amen.
