Spurgeon's Prayer: Surrendering to God’s Will
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
— Luke 22:42 (BSB)
God is too good to be unkind, and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, as we come before You tonight, we surrender our hearts to Your will. We know that Your ways are higher than our ways and that Your plans are always for our good. Yet, we confess that surrendering to Your will is not always easy. In moments of uncertainty or trial, we struggle to let go of our desires. But tonight, we echo the words of Jesus: “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
Help us, Lord, to trust in Your wisdom and love, even when we cannot see the outcome. We ask for patience and peace as we wait for Your plans to unfold. Teach us to rest in the knowledge that You are in control, and that You are working all things together for good. When our prayers seem unanswered or when we face challenges that we do not understand, may we lean on Your heart and trust in Your goodness.
Father, we also ask for contentment in Your plan, even when it differs from what we desire. Help us to embrace Your will with faith, knowing that You see the bigger picture. May we find joy in walking in obedience to You, even when the path is difficult. Let our surrender to Your will be an act of worship, a sign of our trust in Your perfect wisdom.
As we rest tonight, we lay down our worries, our fears, and our desires at Your feet. We trust You with every detail of our lives, knowing that You are a good and loving Father. In the morning, may we rise with hearts fully surrendered to Your will, ready to walk in obedience and trust. Amen.
