Spurgeon's Prayer: Forgiveness and Peace
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
— 1 John 1:9 (BSB)
Sin may drag you ever so low, but Christ’s great atonement is still lower.
— Charles Spurgeon
Heavenly Father, we come before You today with humble hearts, confessing our sins and seeking Your forgiveness. We know we have fallen short of Your glory in many ways, but we are grateful for the assurance that in Christ, we find full pardon. You have promised that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We come now, laying our sins before You, trusting in the power of the blood of Jesus that was shed for our forgiveness.
Lord, we ask that You would blot out our sins like a cloud, removing them from us so that they may never be seen again. We long to experience the peace that comes from Your promise of forgiveness, applied by the Holy Spirit. May we stand firm in the knowledge that we are justified by faith and have peace with You through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Father, we forgive those who have wronged us, just as You have forgiven us. We hold no grudge or enmity toward anyone. No matter how we’ve been slandered or wronged, we sincerely forgive and forget it all. Help us to release bitterness and anger, and to walk in the freedom that comes from forgiveness.
Tonight, we ask for the assurance of Your peace to fill our hearts. Let us rest, knowing that we are reconciled to You, and that sin will never again be mentioned against us. May we live as forgiven men and women, standing firm in the finished work of Christ. Amen.
