Spurgeon's Prayer: Living as Forgiven People
So teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom.
— Psalm 90:12 (BSB)
Grace does not choose a man and leave him as he is.
— Charles Spurgeon
Gracious Father, we come before You today, asking for the grace to live as forgiven people. We have received such a great gift in the forgiveness of our sins, and now we ask that You would help us to live lives that reflect that forgiveness. May we walk in holiness and obedience, knowing that our time here on earth is short, and we desire to use it well. Teach us to number our days, that we may live with wisdom and purpose, always seeking to bring glory to You.
We know, Lord, that our lives are like a vapor that quickly vanishes. Help us to live with a sense of urgency, making the most of every opportunity to grow in grace and to serve You. We ask that from the beginning of our Christian walk to its end, Your grace would be upon us, shaping us into the people You have called us to be.
We long to be perfectly obedient in thought, word, and deed. We know we are not yet what we desire to be, and this is our sorrow. But we trust that by Your Spirit, You will continue the good work You have begun in us. Sanctify us, Lord, and teach us how to avoid sin. Help us to grow in watchfulness and self-control, that our lives may be a testimony of Your transforming grace.
May we live in such a way that, if our Master were to come at any moment, we would not be ashamed to give an account. Let our lives be marked by holiness, joy, and obedience, as we await the day when we will be made perfect in Christ’s likeness. Amen.
