Spurgeon's Prayer: Freedom from Bondage
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.
— Galatians 5:1 (BSB)
True freedom is not liberty to sin, but liberty from sin.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we thank You for the freedom You have given us through Christ. We once lived in bondage, unable to keep Your law, and our hearts were filled with rebellion. When the commandment came, it only revealed the depth of our sin, and we were spiritually dead. But now, through Your sovereign grace, everything has changed for us.
Blessed be Your name for the work of transformation that You have done in our hearts. You did not cast us out, though we were unworthy and rebellious. Instead, You made us Your children through the power of Your Holy Spirit. We are no longer children of bondage but children of the promise, born not of the flesh, but of the Spirit. We have been born again into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and we are heirs of Your kingdom.
Lord, we thank You that we no longer live under the yoke of slavery. Our hearts are no longer drawn to evil, but to You. We dwell in the freedom of the Father’s house, and our spirits are satisfied in Your presence. We would not trade this freedom for anything, for it is a foretaste of the eternal joy we will experience when we dwell with You forever.
May we live each day in the fullness of this freedom. Let us stand firm in the liberty that Christ has won for us, and may we never return to the bondage of sin. Help us to walk in the Spirit, living as true children of the promise, filled with Your love and grace. Amen.
