Spurgeon's Prayer: Adopted as Children of God

For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
— Romans 8:15 (BSB)

You stand before God as if you were Christ, because Christ stood before God as if He were you.
— Charles Spurgeon

Our Father, we come before You with hearts full of praise, rejoicing in the glorious liberty that we now have as Your children. Through faith in Christ, we can truly say, "Abba, Father." It is our greatest joy to know that we have been adopted into Your family. With peace deep within our spirits, we cry out, "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name; Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

Lord, we thank You for the freedom that comes from our adoption into Your family. Once, we were in bondage, unable to keep Your law, burdened by our sin, and filled with rebellion. But now, through Your grace, we are no longer slaves but children of the promise. We have been born again, not of human will, but of the Holy Spirit, and we are heirs of Your kingdom. Blessed be Your name!

No longer do we fear Your judgment, but we rest in the knowledge that we are loved, redeemed, and secure in Your hands. Like Isaac, we are heirs according to the promise. Our hearts are full, for we dwell in the house of our Father, satisfied with the richest of spiritual food. Our mouths will continually praise You with joyful lips, for we would not trade this privilege for anything in the world.

O God, let this adoption fill our hearts with gratitude. May we live each day in the joy and freedom that comes from being Your sons and daughters. We look forward to the eternal fulfillment of this promise when we will dwell with You forever. Amen.
