Spurgeon's Prayer: Deliverance from Bondage

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
— John 8:36 (BSB)

The freedom in Christ is a freedom to serve, a freedom to love, and a freedom to live in holiness.
— Charles Spurgeon

Father, we come to You with grateful hearts, knowing that through Christ, we have been set free. We once lived in the bondage of sin, unable to escape its grip, and at times even trusted in our own efforts to save ourselves. But now, through Your grace, we have been delivered from the spirit of bondage and brought into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

We thank You, Lord, that You have opened our eyes to see the weight of our sin and the futility of self-righteousness. You have shown us that our own efforts, no matter how sincere, could never save us. Now we rest in the finished work of Christ, knowing that it is by grace alone, through faith, that we are saved. We cast ourselves upon Your grace, trusting not in our own prayers or repentance, but in Christ’s perfect sacrifice on our behalf.

Lord, we ask that You deliver us from any remaining pride or self-righteousness. Keep us humble, always recognizing that it is not by our own strength that we are saved, but by Your mercy and grace. Free us from the burden of trying to earn our salvation, and help us to rest fully in the freedom that Christ has given us.

We also pray for others who are still in bondage. Lord, bring them to a place of humility and trust in You. Let them see the weight of their sin and the beauty of Your grace, and bring them into the glorious freedom of being Your children. May Your law become their delight, and may Your Son be their joy and crown. Amen.
