Spurgeon's Prayer: The Spirit of Adoption
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
— Romans 8:15 (BSB)
We have not only been pardoned, but we have been adopted into the family of God.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we rejoice in the knowledge that we are no longer slaves to fear or sin, but that we have been adopted into Your family. By the Spirit, we cry out, "Abba, Father," knowing that You have brought us close through the sacrifice of Your Son. We are not only forgiven, but we are now Your children, heirs of eternal life and partakers of Your divine love.
We look forward to the full redemption that is to come. Though we experience the redemption of our spirits now, we long for the day when Christ will return and redeem our bodies. On that day, we will be raised incorruptible, and the work of salvation will be fully realized. Jesus, You will lead us completely out of bondage, leaving nothing behind, just as You declared from the cross, "It is finished."
Thank You, Father, for the promise of this future glory. Even now, we experience the joy of being in Your presence, but we know that the best is yet to come. We live with the hope that we will one day be transformed and made perfect in Your sight. Until then, keep our hearts focused on You and on the promise of Your return.
We thank You for the Spirit of adoption, which assures us of our place in Your family. Let this knowledge guide us in our daily walk with You, helping us to live as Your beloved children. We praise You for the love that has redeemed us and for the glory that awaits. Amen.
