Spurgeon's Prayer: The Grace that Covers Us
But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
— Romans 5:8 (BSB)
I have a great need for Christ; I have a great Christ for my need.
— Charles Spurgeon
Lord, we stand in awe of Your immense love for us. Though we were sinners, rebellious and far from You, You sent Your Son to die for us. We deserved nothing but judgment, yet in Christ, You have covered our shame with His righteousness. Where our sins once condemned us, now the radiance of Christ’s obedience shines in our place. For His sake, You are pleased with us and have chosen to dwell among us.
How great is Your love, Father! When we were lost, You found us. When we were covered in guilt, You clothed us in the purity of Christ. His perfect life and sacrifice have covered every one of our transgressions, and now we stand before You justified and free from condemnation. We no longer need to fear Your judgment, for in Christ, we are fully accepted.
Lord, we confess that we do not deserve this love. We often stray and fail, yet Your love remains constant. Your mercy endures despite our many shortcomings. Let this knowledge of Your grace silence our boasting and fill our hearts with gratitude. May we live each day with the awareness that our salvation is a work of Your grace alone, and not of ourselves.
Thank You, Father, for the peace we have in knowing that our sins are forgiven. Thank You for the joy of being Your children, redeemed by the blood of Christ. Help us to rest in Your love and live in a way that honors You. Amen.
