Spurgeon's Prayer: Protecting the Church and Standing in Truth

Be shepherds of God’s flock that is among you, watching over them not out of compulsion, but because it is God’s will; not out of greed, but out of eagerness;
— 1 Peter 5:2 (BSB)

The church may go through her dark and cloudy day, but Christ is with her in the storm.
— Charles Spurgeon

Heavenly Father, tonight we lift up Your Church to You. We know that the enemy seeks to devour, and wolves in sheep’s clothing threaten the flock. But we trust in Your promise to protect Your people. You are the Shepherd who watches over us, and we ask that You keep Your Church safe from every attack. Lord, we pray for faithful leaders who will guide Your people with truth and wisdom, shepherding them according to Your will.

We ask that You preserve Your Church from error. In a time when false teachings abound, help us hold fast to the truth of the Gospel. Strengthen those who proclaim Your Word, and give them the boldness to stand for truth even when it is unpopular. May Your people be rooted in Your Word, discerning what is true and rejecting what is false.

Father, we know that the enemy will not prevail, for You are alive, and You reign over all. The gates of hell will not overcome Your Church, and we stand in that confidence tonight. Protect Your people from division, from distractions, and from anything that would pull us away from Your truth.

As we rest tonight, we trust in Your watchful care. Keep us in the true pastures of Your Word, free from the poison of error. We know that You are with us in every storm, guiding and protecting Your Church. Let us rest in the assurance that we are secure in Your hands.
