Spurgeon's Prayer: True Communion with God
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
— James 4:8 (BSB)
Prayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscle of omnipotence.
— Charles Spurgeon
Our God and Father, we come to You this morning, longing for deeper communion with You. Draw us close by Your Spirit, and may these moments of prayer be filled with the true spirit of supplication. Help us to leave behind every worldly thought and distraction, focusing entirely on what is spiritual and divine. Lord, let us find You to be our sanctuary, the place where we experience true fellowship with You.
We confess, Lord, that it is difficult to rid ourselves of distracting thoughts, but we ask for Your help to drive them away. Just as Abraham drove away the birds that came down on his sacrifice, help us chase away all the worries and pleasures that hinder our fellowship with You. May we begin this day with adoration, worshiping You, the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Though we are not yet in the place where pure spirits behold Your face, we long to be there, casting our crowns before Your throne, giving glory, honor, and praise to You forever.
Lord, we bow before You in worship, recognizing that we are entirely dependent on Your grace. May our hearts be consumed with love for You, just as fire consumed Elijah’s sacrifice. We offer ourselves to You today, asking that You use us for Your glory in every part of our lives, even in our weaknesses. We come to You just as we are, trusting in Your mercy and grace.
