Spurgeon's Prayer: A Prayer for Closer Fellowship

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
— James 4:8 (BSB)

Prayer moves the arm that moves the world.
— Charles Spurgeon

Lord, we desire to come before You, but we ask that You come to us first. Draw us closer to You, and we will eagerly follow. Blessed Holy Spirit, help us in our weaknesses, for we do not always know what to pray for or how to pray as we should. Come, Holy Spirit, and guide our hearts, that each one of us may find something in this prayer that speaks directly to our souls.

We are grateful that even if no one prays for us specifically, there is One who carries the names of all His redeemed on His heart and shoulders. Jesus, our great Advocate, intercedes for us, and we rest in Your love. Dear Savior, we place ourselves under Your care, trusting that You will tend to each of us with the strength of Your arm and the tenderness of Your heart.

We praise You, Lord, for Your love that has no beginning and no end. You have chosen us and made a covenant of love for our redemption. Your love, which was demonstrated on the cross and is steadfast even when we are unfaithful, sustains us every day. We thank You for keeping us and for the assurance that You will never let us go.

As we begin this day, we ask that You keep us close, Lord. Keep us from wandering, restore us when we fall, and help us walk in constant fellowship with You. May we bless You with our praise, for Your mercy endures forever.
