because everyone born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. — 1 John 5:4 BSB
If we are to be saved, our faith must win the day. We need a faith that triumphs over death and hell and gains a glorious victory over every internal, external, and infernal foe. This is the reality of our situation: we must either conquer or be conquered. We must either win the battle and be crowned with an immortal crown of glory or fall in defeat to sin and Satan. Yet none of God’s people will ultimately be defeated in this fight, even if at times they seem to escape defeat by the skin of their teeth. Faith will eventually prevail, for Jesus is not only the author but also the finisher of our faith. He will crown the faith He has given with eternal glory. He will never allow His dear family to be defeated in the good fight of faith, for He strengthens every weak arm, gives power to every feeble knee, and ensures that they will emerge as more than conquerors.
As the Lord the Spirit works in the soul through His living energy, He strengthens our faith to believe more firmly in the name of the only begotten Son of God, to continually receive from His fullness, to wrestle more earnestly with God for spiritual blessings, to stand more steadfastly in the face of every assault, to fight the good fight of faith with greater vigor, and never surrender until faith achieves its goal: to see Jesus as He is in the realm of eternal day.
