But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like calves from the stall. — Mal 4:2 BSB
Just as the sun rises in the east and climbs to the highest point in the sky, spreading light, warmth, and joy with every ray, so the blessed Lord Jesus, as the Sun of righteousness, continually spreads the beams of His grace and favor. Whenever these beams touch a soul, there is light and life, making it both holy and happy. How foolish would it be for someone, desiring light in their room at noonday, to close the shutters and light a match to give them light for a few moments. Let us not be so foolish as to look for happiness or comfort in our own efforts when the glorious Sun of righteousness is shining from the right hand of God upon believing hearts.
But when a veil covers the heart, it’s like shutters on a window—there’s no light to show who Jesus is or where He can be found. Then is it any wonder that people try to kindle their own light and walk in the sparks of their own fire? Yet what does God’s Word say about this? “This is what you will receive from my hand: you will lie down in torment” (Isaiah 50:11).
