He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. — Ps 91:1 BSB
What is “the secret place of the Most High”? It is the same as what Asaph speaks of in Psalm 73: “Until I went into the sanctuary of God, then I understood their end.” It is also what the Lord refers to in Ezekiel: “I will be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.” This “secret place” is the hidden bosom of God. It is an entrance by faith into fellowship with Jehovah, through a spiritual manifestation of Him, leading us into a spiritual knowledge of Him. “The secret place of the Most High” is where Jehovah meets the sinner in Christ, where He opens the riches of His mercy and leads the sinner into His heart, revealing the secrets of His love.
It is called a “secret” place because it is known only to those to whom it is specially revealed. No one can enter this secret place—nor even desire to enter—unless the Lord, by His mysterious hand, opens it up, brings them into it, and blesses them there. To be in the “secret place of the Most High” is to be brought into fellowship with God, experiencing spiritual worship, divine communion, and knowing Him in a personal and experimental way. It is to “run into” Him as “a strong tower” and to feel the solemn safety found only in Him.
