Today’s Verse

Philippians 4:12

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. (KJV)

Christians don’t tell lies, they just go to church and sing them!

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

Sunlight is never more grateful than after a long watch in the midnight blackness; Christ's presence is never more acceptable than after a time of weeping, on account of his departure. It is a sad thing that we should need to lose our mercies to teach us to be grateful for them; let us mourn over this

crookedness of our nature; and let us strive to express our thankfulness for mercies, so that we may not have to lament their removal. If you desire Christ for a perpetual guest, give him all the keys of your heart; let not one cabinet be locked up from him; give him the range of every room, and the key of every chamber; thus you will constrain him to remain.

The Spurgeon Birthday Book

May 16

We are not to retain the precious grains of truth as the Egyptian mummy held the wheat for ages, without giving it an opportunity to grow; we must sow it and water it. Why does the Lord send down the rain upon the thirsty earth and give the genial sunshine?

Is it not that these may all help the earth to yield food for man? Even so the Lord visits and refreshes our souls that we may use our renewed strength in the promotion of his glory.
