Spurgeon's Prayer: Confession and Humility Before God

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
— 1 John 1:9 (BSB)

Repentance is the inseparable companion of faith.
— Charles Spurgeon

Blessed God, we come before You today, acknowledging that You are infinitely blessed and willing to impart blessings. With confidence, we approach You through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who has made the way open for us. We confess before You the sins we have committed, both known and unknown. Touch each of our hearts with tenderness so that we deeply lament that we have grieved You, even in the smallest things.

Lord, forgive us for any sins against Your love and grace. We mourn that we could sin against Your precious sacrifice. Sweet Savior, cleanse us from every stain and give us more of Your Spirit so that we may live in a way that reflects Your holiness. As You are, so we desire to be in this world, growing closer to You each day.

Forgive also those who have never felt the weight of their sins. Quicken their hearts by Your divine Spirit, take away their pleasure in sin, and deliver them from its slavery. As we confess our struggles, we rejoice that though we may fall, we are not slaves to sin but have been made free by the life of God in Christ Jesus. Apply the blood of Jesus to our hearts and cleanse our consciences.

Father, as we go through this day, help us to live lives that reflect Your holiness. We seek to be more like Christ in all we do. Strengthen us to walk humbly and faithfully, bringing glory to Your name. Amen.
