Today’s Quote

Prosperity is often the sharpest trial of faith.

— John Flavel

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

"The flaws in a vessel aren’t apparent when it’s empty, but once it’s filled with water, we’ll see if it leaks."

It’s during times of prosperity that we’re truly tested. We don’t fully know ourselves until we experience great success. Praise can reveal pride, wealth can expose selfishness, and knowledge

can uncover doubts. Success is the ultimate test of character. So, the prosperity that some see as a pure blessing might actually be a challenging test. Lord, protect us when we are full just as much as when we are empty.

Have I been putting on a good outward show without a corresponding inner life? Let me consider that in healthy plants, growth happens both above and below the ground at the same time. Maybe I’m showing off with visible zeal, like a bright red poppy among

the corn; but am I rooted in genuine loyalty and love for Jesus? If not, my outward display will soon wither for lack of deep roots.
