A Trustworthy Name

But I will leave within you a meek and humble people, and they will trust in the name of the LORD. — Zeph 3:12 BSB

When true faith starts to fade among the wealthy, it often finds a home among the poor in this world—those rich in faith. Even now, the Lord has His faithful remnant. Am I one of them?

Perhaps it’s because affliction and poverty teach people to trust in the name of the Lord. Someone with no money must learn to rely on trust. And those who see their own name as worthless in their eyes wisely place their trust in a better name—the name of the Lord. God will always have a people who trust Him, and these will often be afflicted and poor. The world may look down on them, but they are the ones who hold back corruption and bring blessings to others. They are the preserving salt in a world filled with sin.

Once again, I must ask myself: Am I one of them? Am I burdened by the sin within me and around me? Am I poor in spirit, knowing how little I have to offer? Do I trust in the Lord? This is what matters most. Jesus reveals the name and nature of God; am I trusting in Him? If so, I am still here in this world for a purpose. Lord, help me fulfill that purpose.
