Spurgeon’s Daily Help
“When sunlight is focused through a magnifying glass onto one spot, it creates fire; in the same way, when our thoughts are focused on one thing, they warm the heart and eventually set it on fire with that truth.”
There are many rays of light, but they’re scattered. We get a little light on many things,
but what we need is one great truth, focused so intensely on our hearts that it sets our souls on fire. This is the problem with many lives; they’re spread thin over a dozen things, but if they were focused on one, they would be powerful lives, remembered in the present and honored in the future.

The Spurgeon Birthday Book

A prince who rebelled against Rome sent gifts to the Roman general, but they were returned with a warning that the Roman State wouldn’t accept his gifts as long as he remained in rebellion. Similarly, the Lord won’t accept the service of those whose hearts
are far from Him. Would you accept flowers from a servant who refuses to do your work? Wouldn’t you first demand that they fulfill their duties? So, you must first love God before your religious observances can be pleasing to Him.
