Wisdom for the Asking

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. — Jas 1:5 BSB

“If any of you lack wisdom.” There’s no doubt about it—I certainly lack wisdom. What do I know? How can I direct my own path? How can I guide others? Lord, I am filled with foolishness, and I have no wisdom of my own.

But You say, “Let him ask of God.” So, Lord, here I am asking. At Your feet, I ask for heavenly wisdom to face today’s challenges, both the complex and the simple. Because I know I can make foolish mistakes, even in the simplest matters, unless You guide me.

Thank You, Lord, that all I have to do is ask. What a gracious gift, that I only need to pray in faith, and You promise to give me wisdom. You have promised a generous education, with no scolding teacher. And You give it freely—even to a fool like me who lacks wisdom. I thank You for that clear and powerful promise: “It shall be given him.” I believe it. Today, You will grant me the wisdom to understand hidden truths that the world’s wisdom can’t comprehend. You will guide me with Your counsel and, afterward, receive me into glory.
