And it was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, — Eph 4:11 BSB
“To each one his work.” Some are apostles, some evangelists, some pastors, some teachers, and some helpers in small ways. But every Christian has a role to play.
If the smallest wheel in a watch fails, the entire watch stops. Similarly, if even the least Christian neglects their duty, the whole church suffers. No one should ever think, “My little work won’t be missed—I’m too small and weak.” No one is insignificant.
The purpose of the Church is to help each person grow. We all start as spiritual infants, but we are not meant to stay that way.
It’s a sad home where a baby never grows, remaining a baby even at four or five years old. Yet there are Christians who, after four or five years, haven’t grown at all. The Church’s mission is to stimulate each Christian’s growth so that they mature into the “measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”
