For we are members of His body. — Eph 5:30 BSB

Nothing in this world means more to God than a loving and prayerful home.

Today’s passage offers guidance on how to build such a home. Every family member has a role. The husband must love his wife as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for it. This is a high calling of sacrificial love. The wife must love her husband and devote herself to her home. Parents have the responsibility to live for their children, caring for them, teaching them, and showing them how to live. They are God’s representatives to their children. The children’s role is to obey their parents.

People sometimes joke that today’s commandment is “Parents, obey your children.” But when this is the case, it’s an unhappy reversal.

A true Christian home is one where love rules, and everyone fulfills their role.
