in case I am delayed, so that you will know how each one must conduct himself in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. — 1 Tim 3:15 BSB

It’s crucial that those in positions of leadership in the Church be worthy and conduct themselves properly in the house of God. Ministers should live above reproach. Their names should carry the fragrance of Christ’s love. They should have self-control, managing their temper, speech, emotions, and desires. They must be serious but not gloomy, reverent yet approachable, and skilled at teaching. They should be gentle, not argumentative, and have a good reputation, even among those outside the Church.

Other church leaders, like deacons, are held to similar standards. They must be dignified, sincere, not greedy, and hold to the faith with a clear conscience, living blamelessly. Holiness is essential for all who serve in God’s house. Their lives should set an example for others. Improper behavior among church leaders harms Christ’s cause.
