Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. — Matt 6:10 BSB
People often quote the prayer “Thy will be done” as if it only applies to enduring suffering. They think it refers to accepting loss, adversity, or hardship. But the prayer is actually for doing God’s will, not just enduring it. It’s easier to pray this prayer for others, thinking they should do God’s will, than to pray it sincerely for ourselves.
When we offer this prayer with true sincerity, we are asking for the grace to do God’s will in our own lives. This may mean giving up something we hold dear, losing a loved one, or walking through a path of hardship. But when we pray “Thy will be done,” we must be ready for complete obedience, whatever that may entail.
We should always pray this prayer with a heart that is ready to align with God’s will, without rebelling or complaining, but sweetly doing or accepting whatever He asks of us.
