These are the proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel, — Prov 1:1 BSB
Solomon learned much through personal experience. He tested all the resources of the world to see what they could offer. His proverbs aren’t just theoretical wisdom; they are lessons drawn from his own experience.
Some of his sayings serve as warnings: “Don’t go down this road!” Others point out the safe path: “This is the way!” Whatever Solomon discovered in life, he recorded for the benefit of those who came after him.
It’s amazing how many aspects of life these proverbs touch on and how practical they are. If we reflect on them and follow their advice, we’ll live well.
It’s also remarkable that even though Solomon himself wandered far from God, not a single word in his writings makes excuses for his sins. Every proverb points away from the wrong path and toward the right one.
