Now about the collection for the saints, you are to do as I directed the churches of Galatia: — 1 Cor 16:1 BSB
It’s interesting that right after Paul finishes his great chapter on the resurrection, he immediately begins with, “Now about the collection.”
It seems like a sudden shift from the glorious truths of resurrection and eternal life to something as ordinary as collecting money. But even the smallest duties are connected to the great truths of Christianity.
We shouldn’t think of the offering in church as a minor or unimportant part of worship. Paul’s collection was for the saints suffering from famine, and he encouraged their brothers and sisters to share what they had. It was a sacred duty.
Every offering is important because it’s an act of worship. Giving money is as much a part of worship as offering praise or love. The collection is holy and should be treated with reverence. Jesus watches over the offering, observing how we give.
