who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. — 2 Cor 1:4 BSB
The Bible’s message of comfort is one of its most needed in this world.
Many of the people we encounter each day are hurting. They may not wear outward signs of mourning, but not all sorrow is visible.
Today’s lesson is about comfort. It begins with a reminder of God’s comfort—“who comforts us in all our troubles.” He is called the “God of all comfort.” We’re told that one reason He comforts us is so that we can pass that comfort on to others. “So that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
Part of our calling in this world is to be comforters. The comfort we receive from God is meant to be shared. One of the reasons we are allowed to suffer is so that we can be equipped to help others in their suffering.
We should be willing to endure hardship so that we can receive God’s comfort and then go out and comfort others.
