Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; — Prov 3:5 BSB
Faith is often hindered when we rely on human wisdom—whether our own or the wisdom of others. The devil's first temptation to Eve was an offer of wisdom, and she traded her faith for it. "You will be like God, knowing good and evil," he said, and from the moment she sought knowledge, she ceased to trust. The Israelites lost the Promised Land because of the spies. It was their idea to scout out the land and verify whether God had told the truth, which led to the outbreak of unbelief that barred an entire generation from entering Canaan. It's no coincidence that the names of these spies often reflected human wisdom, greatness, and fame.
Similarly, in the days of Christ, the Jews were bound by the traditions of their ancestors and the opinions of others, which prevented them from receiving Him. Jesus asked, "How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from God alone?"
Let us trust Him with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding.
