I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world! — John 16:33 BSB
Christ has already conquered all four of our greatest enemies: Sin, Sickness, Sorrow, and Satan. He has taken our sin upon Himself, and we can cast all of it—even our very sinfulness—onto Him. “I have overcome for you,” He says. He has borne our sickness, and we can separate ourselves from our old weaknesses, rising into His glorious life and strength. He has carried our sorrows, so we should not even carry a care, but instead rejoice always, even glorying in our trials. And He has defeated Satan for us, leaving him nailed to the cross—spoiled, disgraced, and powerless. Now, all we must do is claim His full atonement and declare our victory, overcoming by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
Beloved, are we overcoming sin? Are we overcoming sickness? Are we overcoming sorrow? Are we overcoming Satan?
Fear not, though the battle is long;
Faint not, though the enemy is strong.
Trust your Captain’s mighty power,
Watch with Him for just one hour.
Hear Him calling, “Follow Me,
For I have overcome for thee.”
