Guard the treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. — 2 Tim 1:14 BSB
God gives us an inner power that keeps our hearts in victory and purity. Paul wrote, "Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us." It’s the Holy Spirit; when any thought or temptation of evil arises within, our quick conscience can call upon the Holy Spirit to drive it out. And He will remove it at the command of faith or prayer, keeping us as pure as we are willing to remain. But when our will surrenders and gives in to evil, the Holy Spirit won’t act against our choice. God requires us to stay vigilant, and He will do far more for us than we can ask or imagine as we hold firmly to what is good. He will be in us as a spirit of vigilance, revealing evil, helping us recognize it, and empowering us to bring it to Him for removal and destruction.
O Spirit of Jesus, fill us until we have room only for You!
Come as the heart-searching fire,
Come as the sin-cleansing flood;
Consume us with holy desire,
And fill us with the fullness of God.
