Wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD! — Ps 27:14 BSB
How often this is said in the Bible, and how little it's truly understood! It's what an old monk once called practicing the presence of God. It's the habit of prayer. It's the ongoing communion that doesn't just ask but also receives. Sometimes people ask us to pray for them, and we have to say, "God has already answered our prayer for you, and now it's up to you to accept the answer." It's waiting for you, and you must take it by waiting on the Lord.
This is what renews our strength until we soar on wings like eagles, run without getting tired, and walk without growing weary. Our hearts are too vast to take in His fullness all at once. We must live in His presence until we absorb His very life. This is the secret of spiritual depth and peace, of power and fullness, of love and prayer, of hope and holy purpose. Wait on the Lord.
I am waiting in communion at the blessed mercy seat,
I am waiting, sweetly waiting, on the Lord;
I am drinking of His fullness; I am sitting at His feet;
I am listening to the whispers of His word.
