Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him, — Col 2:6 BSB
Here lies the very heart of spiritual life. It’s not just a state of mind but a life within the heart. Christ for us is the foundation of our salvation and the source of our justification; Christ in us is our sanctification. When this becomes real, "You are dead"—your own condition, your own efforts, are no longer relevant, just like a dead man’s. But your life is hidden with Christ in God. It’s not always evident to you either. It’s hidden and so wrapped up in Him that only as you remain in Him does it become clear and continue. In fact, Christ, who is your life, must constantly sustain it, and He must be everything you need. So, the Christian life isn’t about coming to Christ to save you and then trying to work out your sanctification on your own. Instead, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, so walk in Him, staying as dependent and simply trusting as you were for your salvation.
Ah, friends, how much lighter our burdens would be
For the day just begun,
If we would live our lives one step at a time
And take our moments one by one.
