For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. — Matt 6:32 BSB
Christ places just as much importance on trusting Him for material needs as He does for spiritual ones. Why? Because it’s harder to trust God for our material needs. In spiritual matters, we can fool ourselves into thinking we’re trusting Him when we’re not, but when it comes to rent, food, and physical needs, we can’t pretend. They either come, or our faith fails. It’s easy to say we trust Him for distant, future needs, but there’s no room for half-hearted faith in matters where tangible results are required. It’s easy to have faith when things are going well, but when difficult, irritating situations arise, we quickly see whether our trust is real. The trials of daily life are the real tests of our faith. God often puts us in situations where we have to trust Him for concrete needs—money, rent, food, clothing. If you’re not fully trusting God in these areas, when those tests come, you will struggle. Are you trusting God for everything in your life, day by day, throughout the ordinary week?
