and will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word. — Acts 6:4 BSB
In the consecrated believer, the Holy Spirit is pre-eminently a Spirit of prayer. If we have fully committed our being to Him, He will occupy every moment in communion. We will bring everything to Him as it comes, praying it out in our spirit before we act it out in our lives. We will find ourselves taking up life’s burdens in silent, wordless prayers that we don’t even fully understand. These prayers are simply the unfolding of His will and thought within us, followed by the unfolding of His providence concerning us.
Failure to be faithful and obedient to the faintest whisper of His will often hinders a blessing He meant for us. Over time, we may become so dull and negligent that He can no longer trust us with His whispers, and we stumble along, missing His highest thoughts.
Lord, teach us to pray in the Spirit, to pray without ceasing, and to miss none of Your will.
