Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. — Jas 4:7 BSB

"Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." This is a promise, and God will keep it. If we resist the enemy, God will force him to flee and give us the victory. We can always stand fearlessly against him, and claim the protection of our heavenly King, just as a citizen claims protection from the government against injustice or violence. However, we must not stand on the enemy’s ground by disobedience or we give him power over us. Although God, in His mercy, will restrain the enemy, He will not fully remove this power until we get back on holy ground. Therefore, we must be armed with both the breastplate of righteousness and the shield of faith if we are to successfully resist the prince of darkness and the powers in heavenly places.
